SIDPOP - Support instrument for decision making in POP management. Case study: Mures Catchment Area

Project workshop

On the 21st of April 2016 the "Lucian Blaga" University of Sibiu (Faculty of Sciences, Dr. Ion Rațiu Street) will host the first of a series of four planned Workshops organized within the project, SIDPOP - Support instrument for decision-making in the management of persistent organic pollutants. Case study: Mureș River catchment area, a project financed by the Ro04 Programme – Reduction of hazardous substances by the EEA Grants 2009 – 2014 Financial Mechanism.

The work session will start at 10:00 am with an opening speech by the Project Manager, Mrs. Associate Professor Angela BĂNĂDUC PhD.

The workshop will approach the following topics, enjoying the attendance of the representatives of Mureș River Basin Administration, and of the two Romanian partners involved in project implementation (The Project Promoter - the "Lucian Blaga" University of Sibiu and SC Magnum SRL):

  • The methodology employed for the assessment of the aquatic ecosystems pollution by organic compounds in the Mureș River catchment area accompanied by discussions regarding the adequacy of the database structure to the needs of the institutions and other interested stakeholders
  • Adequacy of the database structure to the needs of the institutions responsible for the management of the persistent organic pollutants and other interested stakeholders
  • Processing of primary data obtained in the SIDPOP project, so that results will be relevant for the sustainable management of the lotic ecosystems from the Mureș catchment area
  • Establishing common interest points in the SIDPOP project to be approached in the future.

The project SIDPOP - Support instrument for decision-making in the management of persistent organic pollutants. Case study: Mureș River catchment area, of a total value of 4,455,637.00 RON, aims to support the decision-making process in the field of hazardous chemicals and waste by developing a support instrument for decision-making in the management of the persistent organic pollutants (POPs) and is implemented in partnership with the Norwegian University of Life Sciences and SC Magnum SRL.
