RO04 Programme- Reduction of Hazardous Substances by the EEA Grants 2009-2014 Financial Mechanism

The SIDPOP project is financed by the RO04 Programme – Reduction of Hazardous Substances through the EEA Grants 2009-2014 Financial Mechanism.

The general objectives of the Programme

The RO04 Programme – Reduction of Hazardous Substances supports the implementation of the EEA Grants 2009-2014 Financial Mechanism objectives by preventing damage and side effects on the environment caused by chemicals and hazardous substances. The Programme general objective, results and indicators reflect the goals, priorities of the strategies and action plans recently adopted at European and national level.

The specific objectives of the Programme

The Programme aims at strengthening the capacity of public entities responsible for the implementing and enforcing EU strategies and legislations on chemicals and hazardous waste. The programme will also improve the monitoring of hazardous substances in the environment, its final goal being to prevent adverse effects of the chemicals and hazardous waste on human health and on environment.

Expected outcomes and results of the RO04 Programme

The expected outcome of the RO04 Programme is to enhance the capacity to implement the EU legislation regarding chemicals and hazardous waste through the following achievements:

  • Strengthening the support granted to the decision making process in the field of chemicals and hazardous waste by increasing knowledge and experience regarding the legislation on hazardous chemicals and waste (by developing decision-making support instruments, such as registers, data-basis, data exchange systems, procedures, guidelines, exposure scenarios for environment and human health, methodologies for the estimation of the risk associated to hazardous substances for health and environment, studies drafted for the benefit of public institutions);
  • Increase knowledge and experience regarding the legislation on hazardous chemicals and waste, by organizing staff trainings in the field of environmental and health assessment and in the field of legislation regarding chemicals and hazardous waste as well as by organizing awareness campaigns on the effects of chemicals and hazardous waste.
