On the 25th of June 2015, in the Aula Magna of the "Lucian Blaga" University of Sibiu, took place the kick-off conference for the project SIDPOP – Support instrument for decision-making in the management of persistent organic pollutants. Case study: Mureș River catchment area, project financed by the RO 04 Programme – Reduction of hazardous substances through the EEA Grants 2009 – 2014 Financial Mechanism.

The project aims to support the decision making process in the field of chemicals and hazardous waste by developing a support instrument for decision-making in the management of persistent organic pollutants (POP).

At the event, besides the project team formed of experts from the three Project partners ("Lucian Blaga" University of Sibiu as Project Promoter, Norwegian University of Life Sciences – Partner 1 and SC Magnum SRL – Partner 2), the following attended: Mr. Constantin Dragomir, Chief Commissioner of the Environmental Guard, representatives of the Environmental Protection Agency of Alba, Hunedoara and Sibiu Counties, representatives of the Romanian Waters Company, of the Olt and Mureș Water Management Systems, representatives of the Sibiu University.

At the event also took the floor Mr. Ioan Cindrea, Chair of the Sibiu County Council, who reminded the fact that the care for nature is a duty and that "we must not take away the right of our grandchildren, of our descendants, to a healthy life in this region".

The conference was opened by the Rector of the "Lucian Blaga" University of Sibiu, Professor eng. Ioan Bondrea PhD who emphasized the importance of the successful implementation of this project as well as the important impact of hazardous chemicals on human health as well as on the environment.
