The FERBOPO ERA Chair project is pleased to launch Sober Thought — a new series of online talks bringing leading scholars to discuss topics at the intersection of state, religion, and body politics in Romania, Central and Eastern Europe, and beyond.
The inaugural session, held on 13 May 2025, featured Prof. Ionela Băluță (University of Bucharest), who presented her work on “Feminism in Romania after 1989” — tracing the development of feminist thought and activism in the post-communist period and its ongoing relevance for gender equality debates today.

About the Series
A rich body of scholarship explores the interaction between state institutions, religious communities, and the politics of the body — in Romania, across Central and Eastern Europe, and beyond. Sober Thought invites well-known authors to present their work to the FERBOPO team and a broader audience of faculty members, graduate students, and interested participants from within and outside Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu.
The series reflects FERBOPO’s commitment to open science and public engagement with research — making high-quality academic scholarship freely accessible to all.
