
Ruxandra GUBERNAT
Ruxandra Gubernat is a documentary filmmaker, visual artist and researcher. She has a PhD in Political Science from Université Paris Nanterre, a master degree from ENS and ICOM de Lyon, and is currently an associate lecturer at the Faculty of Journalism, University of Bucharest. Ruxandra directed Vis.Viață (Imaginary Youth), an observational documentary about three Romanian teenagers growing up in the social media era, deciding to leave their country after high school (currently on HBO Max Romania). She co-directed Portavoce (2018), a mid-length collage-style documentary about the the past fifteen years of protests in Romania. Experimenting with different sub-genres of documentary, she is currently directing and co-producing I’m Every Woman (animated) and Love/Porn (observational), both in development. She produced the video installation Not this baby in my belly - on the traumatic experience of pregnancy loss, followed by a birth during the pandemic - as part of the One in Three international multimedia exhibition. Since 2019, she has been a mentor in the Focus media education programme that empowers children from communities with limited access to culture through cinematic art. In 2023, she co-founded the NGO Patrupetrei, developing projects on marginalisation, under-representation, women's rights, and youth representation.
