Lavinia Stan is the new European Research Area (ERA) Chair at the University Lucian Blaga in Sibiu, Romania. A Comparative Politics specialist and a graduate of the University of Toronto, she has served as a professor in Political Science at St. Francis Xavier University in Canada for more than 20 years. Stan is the author and editor of eighteen books, dozens of peer-reviewed articles, and numerous chapters and reports, most of which deal with issues related to democratization, religion and politics, as well as transitional justice in Central and Eastern Europe and beyond.

The former President of the Society for Romanian Studies and a former member of the Comisia Națională de Atestare a Titlurilor, Diplomelor si Certificatelor Universitare (CNATDCU), Stan is currently serving as editor-in-chief of two peer-reviewed scholarly journals: Women’s Studies International Studies (published by Elsevier) and East European Politics & Societies (published by Sage). She is the editor of the prestigious Encyclopedia of Transitional Justice (published by Cambridge University Press in 2013 and 2023), and the co-author of two books on religion and politics published with Oxford University Press. Stan lived in Sibiu before and during the Romanian Revolution of 1989, and was vice-president when the Society for Romanian Studies organized its international congress in Sibiu in 2012.

As ERA Chair Holder of FERBOPO, Prof. Lavinia Stan  will lead WP2+8, WP4, and WP6.
