Summer School at University of Jyväskylä, Finland (June 5-8, 2023)
University of Jyväskylä organized a Research Management Seminar on good practices in research management during this Summer School. The event was attended by the Head and staff members of the RD&I Office. An important objective of this Summer School was to help LBUS research management staff acquire critical skills, increase their motivation and raise awareness of the value of their work.
Winter School “Humanities and Social Sciences on the Move. Sharing Best Practices and Learned Lessons” at University of Jyväskylä, Finland (November 20-24, 2023)
The ELABCHROM Winter School was meticulously crafted to facilitate the exchange of knowledge, offer actionable insights, and stimulate contemplation among researchers eager to refine their skills in forging global networks, securing coveted EU grants, disseminating their work through renowned publishers, and effectively engaging with the public. Catering to academics at every stage of their career, from PhD candidates to seasoned scholars, the program placed a special emphasis on those in the humanities and social sciences. The curriculum featured dynamic panel discussions and live demonstrations led by experts from JYU, UB, and ULBS, fostering an environment of collaborative learning. Daily sessions were dedicated to exploring distinct themes such as EU funding mechanisms, community engagement, the societal contributions of research, advancements in digital humanities, data management, and the nuances of international publishing. The latter part of the program, including the afternoon sessions and the entire day on Friday, was devoted to the expansive and interdisciplinary realm of cultural heritage research. These gatherings were designed to encourage networking, promoting cooperative efforts in publishing, project development, pedagogy, and scholarly inquiry.
Conference “Revisiting Cultural Heritage: Novel Approaches, Innovative Methods, and Transnational Connections” at Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu, Romania (October 26-27, 2023)
The conference brought together 92 participants affiliated to 30 research institutions from 8 countries (France, Finland, Belgium, Spain, Austria, the UK, Germany, and Romania), who presented 75 papers. The conference had an interdisciplinary character, approaching cultural heritage from the angles of conservation and restoration (with openings to physics, chemistry, and engineering), sociology, history, political science, performance arts, visual arts, literary criticism, marketing, architecture, ethnography, gender studies, food science, media studies etc.
Summer School at University of Burgundy, France (May 28-31, 2024)
The aim of the Summer School was to learn new organizational practices and processes of research management units in different institutions. The Head of the RD&I Office and members of the research management staff attended the event. Participants engaged in activities such as Urban and Regional Cultural Policies, Local Actors and Cultural Collaborations, visits to laboratories and other research centers of the partner university.
Winter School at University of Burgundy, France (October 7-11, 2024)
Academics, non-academic staff and PhD students from ULBS participated, together with colleagues from the University of Jyväskylä (Finland) and the University of Burgundy, in a series of activities and meetings on dissemination of scientific results and research ethics, art-science connections and methodological innovations and implementation of cultural heritage research projects.
Conference “Tangible and Intangible Cultural Heritage: A Dichotomy under Debate”at Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu, Romania (October 24-25, 2024)
Over 70 Romanian and international specialists from universities, research institutes, museums and cultural institutions presented their research in the 14 thematic sections of the conference. In an effort to find a common framework for approaching the link between tangible and intangible heritage, they debated issues related to cultural heritage policies and institutions, conservation of material heritage, digitization and consumption of cultural heritage, as well as festivals, cultural branding, linguistic, archaeological and archival heritage. However, drawing a dividing line between tangible and intangible heritage has been seen as an increasingly difficult challenge to overcome, given the growing number of interdisciplinary approaches that bring them together, showing their inextricable link.
