Afşin Altaylı is partnership & research valorisation responsible and ELABCHROM project officer at Institut Denis Diderot, University of Burgundy. Specialised in museums and cultural heritage, he regards promoting the social role of museums and cultural organisations as an aim and means to deepening the dialogue around contemporary societal issues.
Before joining the University of Burgundy, he assumed different roles at museum organisations such as the International Council of Museums (ICOM) and the European Museum Forum that runs the European Museum of the Year Awards. Afşin coordinated different projects for various public and private museums and institutions specialising in museology, cultural heritage and cultural policy management. Among them were Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture, Turkish Ministry of Culture, EU Culture Programme, Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University and Istanbul Bilgi University where he lectured in museum studies.
Afşin also took part in different editorial roles at academic journals and professional reviews such as the Museum International (editorial board member) and CAMOC Review (chief editor). He is still member of the editorial board at “Curator: the Museum Journal”.
