Senior Lecturer at the University of Opole, trained in sociology (MA) and linguistics (PhD), he specializes in rhetoric and critical discourse studies with a main focus on their social and political dimensions. His doctoral dissertation was dedicated to rhetoric in political comments on social media. In his scientific activity, he looks at the points of discourse where antisystem discourses have challenged mainstream ideologies. A critical lens and seeing language and ideologies as crucial parts of social life are characteristic of all his scientific endeavours. He is a researcher experienced with various research methods, including surveying, interviewing, participatory action research, citizen science, and qualitative, quantitative, and mixed data analysis methods. Since 2019 he has been an active member of the FORTHEM Alliance, especially Multilingualism Lab, where he was an output co-manager in the Citizen Science Project. He authored, coauthored, or coedited over 10 publications, including books and scientific papers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Starting with 2001, I have been teaching general, military, and specialized English at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Since 2013, when I obtained my certification as a teacher trainer, I have conducted courses, workshops, and seminars for foreign language teachers in the military system, with focus on teaching English as a foreign language, English for specific purposes and communicative language skills. As far as my academic research is concerned, I have focused on 2 main directions: the pedagogy of teaching English in the military; in the field of linguistics, on the Critical Discourse Analysis of the ideology of power in military\/NATO discourse, communication in the military organization, and ideologically driven discourses, as part of my doctoral studies, later materialized in some of the subsequent publications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My professional journey spans across translations, public relations & social media, and, more recently, education, with a focus on teaching English as a foreign language. My primary research interest revolves around discourse studies, particularly delving into the intricate realm of fake news. My doctoral thesis investigates the infodemic during the coronavirus pandemic from a critical discourse studies perspective. In my recent scholarly article, “Interpretative Repertoires of COVID-19 Vaccine Hesitancy and Refusal in Romania<\/a>“, I delve into discourse patterns related to vaccine hesitancy in the Romanian context, particularly regarding the COVID-19 vaccine. My research is dedicated to unraveling the discourse strategies employed by purveyors of false information and understanding the cognitive biases that make individuals vulnerable to these narratives. My ultimate goal is to develop effective tools and strategies to counteract the dissemination of misinformation and to steer readers towards credible sources of information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Assistant Professor<\/strong> at the Faculty of Letters and Arts of the Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu. Her areas of expertise include semantics, phonetics, morphology, lexicology, and Romanian as a foreign language (mainly for Erasmus students). Her PhD thesis<\/a> investigates the motivation of the linguistic sign in the proper names of the characters in Mircea Eliade’s work, seen as nominal mythologies, using the tools of mythological linguistics, language poetics and interpretative semantics. Most of the articles she has authored are analyses of the dynamics of contemporary Romanian language: semantic, phonetic and morphosyntactic changes of words observed on cartoon channels, as well as in the print media and on social networks, looking at how certain lexical coinages, semantic mutations or hybrid constructions enter the speaker’s linguistic consciousness and\/or are recorded in dictionaries. She is currently a team member in the following projects: Strengthening the internationalization process of ULBS in the European University Alliance<\/em>, Preservation, Transformation and Study of Romanian Linguistic Heritage in the Context of Globalization (PATLIRO), Support for institutional development and increased involvement and VIZIbility of UManist research at “Lucian Blaga” University of Sibiu (VIZIUM)”.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

He has taken part in DMRN<\/a><\/strong><\/em> (The Digital Museum of the Romanian Novel:1845-1947) <\/em>and FAKEROM<\/a><\/strong><\/em> (Fake News in Romanian: A Joint Discursive and Computational Approach<\/em>), two research projects during which he has specialized in corpus-based analysis and media discourse, and he is currently focusing on a neurodidactic approach to learning Romanian as a foreign language using digital tools in PATLIRO<\/strong><\/em> (Preserving, Transforming and Studying the Romanian Linguistic Heritage in the Context of Globalization<\/em>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
