International Summer School for Medicine Bachelor students (5th and 6th year of study)

The summer school Neuro-oncology will be organized between 13th – 26th July 2020 in Sibiu and students from all the three universities will participate. The number of students which every university will select is as follows: LBUS - 11 students, and Universidad de las Palmas de Gran Canaria - 7 students; Universita degli Studi Niccolo Cusano – 2 students.

The process of selection will be organized respecting the principles of transparency, the equality in terms of opportunities of access and avoiding the conflict of interests (in establishing the commission for selection and in granting);

Each university will organize the process of selection of students at the university level, giving all the necessary information about the number of available places, date and place of the selection, list of documents that participants must submit before the selection, eligibility criteria and selection criteria in a transparent way, preferably by posting all the information on a notice board.

After the process of selection, the list of selected students and the waiting list will be posted in descending order according to the score obtained by every student. The deadline until which the contestations can be submitted, the period and the manner of solution will be also made public.

The students selected by Universita degli Studi Niccolo Cusano and Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria will have the transport covered and they will receive a daily grant for housing and subsistence costs. After taking part in the project’s activities the students will be awarded with 4 ECTS.

Intensive Summer Programme "Neuro-oncology" 13th – 26th July 2020
  • Day 1 Synthesis recapitulation - the anatomy and physiology of central nervous system
  • Day 2 Synthesis recapitulation – clinical and medical imaging in the examination of brain and spine
  • Day 3 Neuro-oncology, the management of brain and spine tumors
  • Day 4 Skull-base surgery – disorders of the skull-base and skull-base tumours
  • Day 5 Treatment options, indications and management in neuro-oncology
  • Day 6 The pre and post surgery management of the neurosurgical patient
  • Training on the usage and interaction with the e-platform and telemedicine components
  • Day 7 Application of biomedical engineering to neuro-oncology
  • Day 8 Hands-on: Basics Surgical Skills
  • Day 9 Hands-on: sutures under microscope
  • Day 10 Hands-on: Anastomosis on 3D Printed Artificial Vasc. Models & Nerve Coaptation
  • Day 11 Hands-on: 3D printed Brain Surgery (approaches, craniostomy, cranioplasty)
  • Day 12 Hands-on: 3D printed Brain Surgery (tumors)
  • Day 13 Hands-on: 3D Printed Brain Surgery (skull base)
  • Day 14 Overview and evaluation

Level of students and selection process:
The present Intensive programme/Summer School is addressed to Medicine Bachelor level students, enrolled in the 5th and 6th year of study.

Location of implementation: Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu, Romania

Participating students will be required basis knowledge of general medicine, anatomy and some particular knowledge in the field of neurology and medical imaging.

The student application file will consist of: ECTS-award: the participants at the summer school will be awarded 4 ECTS which will be recognized for their respective study. The amount of ECTS to be awarded has been calculated by the consortium based on the workload proposed for the summer school.
